ITEM 5 - PROCEDURE FOR EXISTING STREET OR              PREMISE

When a street or a premise already exists, the committee makes its recommendation to the council referring to the Society’s suggestions, to the designations’s applicant and of the owners of the street or premise.

The applicant should file more than 1 choice.

The Society will be called up first so it can file 2 or 3 choices when possible. Then owners of the street or premise will be notified and the Society’s proposals will be included.

ITEM 6 - RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommendations to the committee must be file by writing and must include a rationale for the proposed name.

After the receipt of the committee’s recommendations, the planning officer contacts a member of the family which name was targeted in order to get the endorsement of that family. The family can take up to 30 days to notify of their decision by writing.

Upon receipt of the family’s decision or after the 30 day deadline expiration, the planning authority officer files the committee’s reccommendation to the council consisting of a resolution and the family’s position if it is known.

ITEM 7 - DECISIONS CRITERION

Decision creteria to nominate a street or a premises are :

1. Abide by the policy
2. When a person’s name is considered to name a street or a premise and when appropriate to do so, the first name must be added.
3. Do not restrain to the location of the street or the premise in order to promote the heritage of a certain sector.
4. The chosen name must be short as much as possible

ITEM 8 - TOPONYMY

The chosen name must comply with choices criterion and recording rules established by La Commission de toponymie du Québec which approves and formalizes toponyms and odonyms.

ITEM 9 - OFF URBANISATIONS’ PERIMETER

This policy enforces on the whole territory. Unusually, off urbanisation’s perimeter and by virtue of merits of the suggestions, a name that may not abide by the set of criteria of this policy can be considered among the other suggestions.
